CUH2A received the Honor Award at the AIA Georgia Design and Honor Award Gala Celebration, during the recent Architecture 2007: Leap into Livability awards. The award recognizes exceptional skill and creativity in designing with brick. The awards, conducted and co-sponsored by Brick Southeast, were held at the Savannah International Trade and Convention Center. CUH2A won the Honor Award for the design and construction of the Molecular Science and Engineering Building at the Georgia Institute of Technology, one of the nation?EUR??,,????'???s leading research universities. The new five-story 275,000 square foot multidisciplinary research facility is comprised of two rectilinear ?EUR??,,????'??piers,?EUR??,,????'?? containing the labs, appropriately clad in brick, the traditional material on campus. The simple form and solid material provide an interesting contrast to the transparent, curvilinear connecting ?EUR??,,????'??bridge?EUR??,,????'?? clad in glass, aluminum and stone. The selection of brick for significant areas of the building exterior also helped to keep the project within its modest construction budget. ?EUR??,,????'??This project shows admirable respect for the University campus and landscape and the new building completes an academic quadrangle that creates a portal to the landscaped commons beyond,?EUR??,,????'?? award judges said.
