This is the city of Aurora?EUR??,,????'?????<???????????????????????(R)?EUR??,,????'????s first park space, dedicated in 1832. The focal point of this renovation is the large, colorful and interactive fountain. The location of the fountain is historically accurate. The project was funded partially through a DECA grant.
The renovated park is a great place to play for all ages, especially younger children. All design components are ADA accessible.
The design team performed detailed historical research into the placement of the design features. Also, the design team focused on environmental responsibility, including recycling the gray water from the fountain through a recirculation system, recycled glass banding in the fountain pavement design, native stone material quarried in close proximity to the site, custom designed recycling bins, existing tree preservation and native landscape plant selection.
This park was just selected as a 2009 IPRA Outstanding Facility & Parks award winner. The 13.5 acre park project was redeveloped with an OSLAD grant in 2008. The project involved development of a 70-space parking lot, a 10 ft. wide multi-use trail, a multi-use athletic field, multi-generation playground environment with a tot-trike area for ages 2-5, an outdoor electronic gaming system (NEOS), native landscaping, park pavilion, site furnishings and the construction of bio-swales and storm water ponds to mitigate frequent flooding.
The park redevelopment was awarded the Illinois Park & Rec. Association Outstanding Facility and Parks Award for ?EUR??,,????'?????<?????????????????exceptional and unique achievements in design and development.?EUR??,,????'?????<?????????????????
