An old fire station in Missoula, Montana has been torn down to build a bigger one, but many parts of the original building are being salvaged to be used towards the reconstruction of Triangle Park, directly across the street. The park, up until now, has mainly consisted of two 500 square-foot pie slices of blank asphalt. Tim Skufca, manager of the demolition of the 53-year-old station and the Triangle Park project says that they first have to wait to see what material survives. ?EUR??,,????'?????<????????We were hoping to save [the roof] when it came down and grind it for mulch, but they decided it was full of too much conduit and stuff,?EUR??,,????'?????<???????? Skufca said. ?EUR??,,????'?????<????????So they?EUR??,,????'?????<????????????EUR??,,??re going to cart that off. But it?EUR??,,????'?????<????????????EUR??,,??s looking very likely that we?EUR??,,????'?????<????????????EUR??,,??ll get the brick off the building.?EUR??,,????'?????<???????? Skufca is a board member of MUD and designer for Kibo Group Architecture. The group plans to use the cleaned brick to pave a labyrinth and build a small ampitheater in the park. The ampitheater will be 45 feet in diameter and sunken two feet, including a handicap-access ramp and informal bleachers. Drought-resistant native plants will be placed around it. The current project follows has been aided by a $3,000 grant from Missoula?EUR??,,????'?????<????????????EUR??,,??s Office of Neighborhoods, volunteers have planted and landscaped the westernmost triangle in late 2006.
