Fellers Residence, Colorado Springs

This large residential home is located on 6 acres at the base of Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado Springs, CO in a gated community. The mature semi-formal landscape surrounding this home and its several outdoor living spaces were completely dark after the setting sun. One of the owner's objectives was to enjoy their beautiful gardens and the backdrop from any of the outdoor living spaces, as well as from inside their home. The owner also wanted to be mindful of the adjoining neighbors, as well as protecting the night sky viewing. Since this home already had custom made exterior lighting elements, there was no emphasis on highlighting any of the architectural features. The owner did not want to bring a lot of attention to his property from adjoining neighbors.

Techniques creating depth to the landscape, layering of lighting to create depth, shadowing, and silhouetting plant materials, downlighting the steep circular driveway from large pine trees to create a sense of direction and interesting patterns, washing light across boulder walls and cross lighting of specific trees were implemented into the lighting design.

This design included a total of 102 fixtures and 4 (300 watt) transformers. The fixtures, lamp beam spread, kelvin temperature, lumen output and wattage were based on the specific elements we were lighting.

To keep the integrity of the lighting design and product warranty intact, the customer was more than willing to enter into an annual maintenance agreement.
