Institution: Philadelphia University Education: MLA, University of Florida; PhD in Environmental Design and Planning, Virginia Tech ASLA Chapter: Pennsylvania/Delaware Category: Service
From leadership roles as a student ASLA member and teaching assistant to her subsequent rise through landscape architecture academia, Claudia Phillips has consistently followed her dedication to service to the community and her students. As chair and facility member of the Morgan State University MLA program, student numbers doubled, scholarships for students increased and the program received full LAAB accreditation, even as she became actively involved in Baltimore community service. Subsequently, she helped develop and now directs the Philadelphia University BLA program. She sees a direct link between sustainable design and a service-learning approach to landscape architecture education. To view more 2013 ASLA Class of Fellows please click here.
