Firm: WORKSHOP: Ken Smith Landscape Architect, New York City Education: BSLA, Iowa State University; MLA, Harvard Graduate School of Design ASLA Chapter: New York Chapter Category: Works
Ken Smith is at home in the worlds of art, architecture and urban design. He creates compelling landscapes that are inventive and bold. He has lectured extensively on the importance of scale in landscape design, whether waterfronts or back yards. He argues for increased clarity in contemporary landscape architecture and more refined attention to details. There should be no nebulous middle, he says. And instead of the top-down design approach so commonly taught in schools, it is often the bottom-up inductive approach that produces the most salient ideas.
