ASLA Chapter: Washington Most notable professional accomplishments: Certainly many of the awards for our work have been notable including the:
2011 ASLA Honor Award in Community Service 2010 Great Places award for the "Garbage to Gardens" projects, edra, Places Metropolis 2009 ASLA Community Service Award 2007 Outstanding Teaching Award, CELA 2007 ASLA Honor Award in Community Service 2006 University of Washington Sterling Munro Public Service Teaching Award The founding and developing of the design/build program in the University of Washington Department of Landscape Architecture. Authoring over 15 articles for Landscape Architecture magazine that explored innovative, sustainable materials, therapeutic gardens and alternative teach pedegogies and the book "Wood in Landscape were also notable accomplishments. Maybe most notable and satisfying has been the initiating and implementing of many projects for users living in places where the benefits of landscape architecture rarely accessible. ???????(R)?EUR??,,????'?EUR??,,?EUR These include the garden for the inmates at Bedford Correctional Facilities mother/child program or for the children with AIDS/HIV at Incarnation Children's Center or for the families that work in the largest garbage dump in Central America, in Guatemala City or the survivors and victims of genocide and ethnic cleansing in Bosnian and Herzegovina or for the residents of Fisher House that serves our disabled veterans and their families. These projects provide critical places for healing, coping and transformation. Thoughts on being elected to the Council of Fellows: When I started my career I never imaged my efforts would reach across oceans and mountains to touch those whose lives ???????(R)?EUR??,,????'?EUR??,,?EUR have been devastated by war, illness, poverty and tragedy. To be honored and admitted into the fellows, in the company of those so accomplished, who have given so much to our profession is a tremendous honor. ???????(R)?EUR??,,????'?EUR??,,?EUR It is an honor I never imagined would be bestowed upon me. ???????(R)?EUR??,,????'?EUR??,,?EUR I am humbled, honored and deeply touched. |
