Most notable professional accomplishments: In 2000, Bill was elected to represent the South Carolina Chapter on the national ASLA Board of Trustees where he also became involved in the ASLA Government Affairs Advisory Committee, the ASLA Policy Committee, the ASLA Member Services Committee, and?EUR??,,????'??+perhaps most importantly?EUR??,,????'??+the ASLA Leadership Development Committee of which he served as co-chair (2003-2004) and currently serves as Chair.

As a charter member of ASLA?EUR??,,????'???s Leadership Development Committee, Bill helped formulate the committee?EUR??,,????'???s presentations on Leadership, Public Speaking, Community Participation in Community Design, and Grassroots Political Activism. He conducted more than three dozen leadership sessions for landscape architects across the United States and Canada, as well as sessions for five national student LABASH conferences. He has participated in presentations for the national ASLA Board of Trustees and Chapter Presidents Council, and for the ASLA Annual Meetings in San Jose, New Orleans, and Salt Lake City.

Recognized quickly as a national leader by his fellow Trustees, Bill was elected Vice President of Membership. In his position as Vice-President of Membership, Bill provided great leadership in this important area of the association. Under his leadership, ASLA?EUR??,,????'???s membership increased to an all time high of over 16,000 members. Bill worked with staff and committee chairs to reorganize the committees in this area with a focus on providing better customer service to our student and emerging professional members. During his term as Vice President, Bill focused his efforts on working with young professionals. As a result the Student Services Committee was given a new name and a new charge as the Emerging Professionals Committee, encompassing both Student and Associate members. At his urging ASLA also adopted a graduated payment scale for Associate members to attend the National Meeting.

As Vice President of ASLA, he served as the keynote speaker for awards programs for the Prairie Gateway, West Virginia, and Arizona Chapters of ASLA, as well as the Student Awards Program at Kansas State University. Bill served on the jury for the awards program for the San Diego Chapter and spoke at Career Day at UCLA Extension. Additionally, he has been a speaker, guest critic, or jury member at more than a dozen universities.

Thoughts on being elected to Council of Fellows: To say becoming a Fellow is an honor is really an understatement. Instead of making me think about what I?EUR??,,????'???ve done to get this far it makes me think of all the things I need to do to be worthy of the honor. Students and young landscape architects have a special place in my heart and I hope to be a better mentor to them. This is an incredible profession and we need to continue to nurture and inspire those who will come after us. The really cool thing is, because of their energy and enthusiasm they also inspire us.
