Most notable professional accomplishments: M. Elise Huggins has helped to broaden the scope, depth and breadth of the profession of landscape architecture in Alaska. Through work with architects, school districts, the Department of Transportation, and other public facility managers, Elise has made significant in-roads into not only the acceptance of landscape architects as critical team members, but also the use of landscape architects in the beginning phases of design.

Thoughts on being elected to Council of Fellows: I feel very grateful to have the support of the Alaska Chapter, not just for the nomination, but for all the work the chapter has done to enhance the profession of landscape architecture. We have developed programs and events involving the community and have been able to get many Alaskans to understand the value of our profession. I am fortunate to have a wonderful employee, Deborah McGee, who has been with me over a decade and who has felt the most impact from all the volunteer hours, the special projects and the unique details that we create to make projects work. Most of all, I am forever grateful to have a husband and children who have incredible patience and understanding. They are what have allowed me to do what I do.
