Most notable professional accomplishments: Even after all the effort and craft that I?EUR??,,????'???ve put into the design of urban places and landscapes around the world, I may be remembered most for having contributed, in a small way, to a change in the perception of urban waterways in the Houston metropolitan area: a change from a vocabulary of ?EUR??,,????'??ditches and sewers?EUR??,,????'?? to a vocabulary of ?EUR??,,????'??streams and rivers?EUR??,,????'??; from ?EUR??,,????'??better drainage?EUR??,,????'?? to ?EUR??,,????'??watershed management?EUR??,,????'??; and from ?EUR??,,????'??channel straightening?EUR??,,????'?? to ?EUR??,,????'??fluvial geomorphology.?EUR??,,????'?? I have helped people to understand the interconnectedness of rainfall, watersheds and the urban landscape at large and small scales, and this is changing the way that projects are being designed and constructed in the region today from regional civil works to front yards.

Thoughts on being elected to Council of Fellows: While being nominated as a Fellow in the American Society of Landscape Architects is a great honor, it is also a reminder to me of the critical role that should be played by Landscape Architects in service to the community and it highlights and underscores the huge challenges not yet faced and the Herculean efforts not yet made to create livable cities and to maintain environments that can support them.
