Most notable professional accomplishments:

I think of my professional accomplishments in two categories. One is the success I have had as an entrepreneur and leader of a 21-year old firm. The satisfaction of working with and growing a design business (started in the economic downturn of the mid-1980?EUR??,,????'???s in Texas) and producing wonderful projects is a source of energy for me each day. We have been very fortunate to have many, many talented landscape architects in the firm that contribute daily to this success. Secondly, of course, are the projects themselves. Each project, each day, brings new challenges and opportunities. One area in which I feel I have grown tremendously is the area of project facilitation particularly in the public sector. Our practice includes a wide variety of work, both public and private, and in both areas the ability to lead, develop consensus among diverse groups, and translate that into a built project has become an area in which I feel I have had much success. In our profession we are often put into situations where we can have real impact in public policy and design if we learn to tackle the issues and facilitate stakeholders. This is not an expertise I had when I started this firm, and today I would like to think of it as a strength.

Thoughts on being elected to Council of Fellows: I have dreamed about becoming a Fellow of ASLA since the first investiture dinner I attended in Chicago in 1993. It is truly an honor to be recognized by one?EUR??,,????'???s peers and be a part of such an awesome group of professionals.
