Most notable professional accomplishments:

  • Professionally, I have been truly blessed with opportunity. Can one really choose between creating a national memorial such as the FDR Memorial in Washington D.C. and being entrusted with a national icon and treasure such as Yosemite Falls? Through such opportunity I have come to understand that making great public spaces always requires the dedicated efforts and skills of many talented people.

Thoughts on being elected to Council of Fellows:Being nominated a Fellow has resulted in my taking pause to reflect back on all the people that I have met and learned from along the way. In particular Larry Halprin, FASLA, who counseled early in my career to avoid the trappings of "professionalism" and focus instead on how people relate emotionally to each other and their environment.
