Most notable professional accomplishments: First, it has been rewarding to have played even a small role in demonstrating to both the economic and political forces that stewardship for our land and natural resources through sensitive design and development in concert with nature is not something to be feared and rejected, but is environmentally sound and economically prudent. Second, to have helped decision makers realize and understand that we really do not own the land; we only borrow it from our grandchildren. Third, to have played a part in creating a path for other landscape architects to follow so that this baton can be handed to the next generation.
Thoughts on being elected to Council of Fellows: It is a most humbling experience for which I do not feel worthy. It seems a bit odd to be the recipient of such a high honor for doing something that is so very enjoyable for me and is so central to my beliefs. I am deeply thankful to all those individuals both within and outside of our profession who have given inspiration, direction and guidance, opened doors and provided opportunities for me along the way. I hold this honor in the highest regard and will continue to strive to live up to its worthiness.
