Profile: James R. Taylor, ASLA

Company/academic title: University of Guelph/Professor

Education: BLA, Iowa State University
MLA, UC Berkeley

Years in the profession: 40

ASLA chapter: International member (Canada)

Category: Service to the Profession

Most notable professional accomplishments:

  • A pioneer in the development of the profession of landscape architecture in Western Canada (Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta)
  • Founding member and president of the Landscape Architecture Canada Foundation (LACF). Under Jim's leadership, a strong financial base has been established and a strong grants program is now available for research and communication.
  • Internationally, Jim has been involved in the inclusion of the profession of landscape architecture in the North American Free Trade Agreement between the USA and Canada and the re-entry of ASLA and CSLA into the International Federation of Landscape Architects where he is currently serving as Regional Vice President (North, Central and South America).

Thoughts on being elected to Council of Fellows: This is a great honor for me. Less than 30 Fellows are selected each year, which suggests a rather exclusive club that I am pleased to be a member of.
As a member of both the ASLA and the CSLA, I look forward to working on issues of common interest in future years.
