Michael R. Van Valkenburgh graduated from Boston Museum School, Photography in 1975, Cornell University, College of Agriculture in 1973, and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1977. He has been a large part in the advancement in the landscaping industry. His works have taken him throughout the United States and parts of Europe including Paris and Rome. He has been awarded numbers times for his contributions to the landscaping community. Such awards include the ASLA National Merit Award, Mill Race Park, Columbus, IN in 1994 and the ASLA National Merit Award, Harvard Yard Landscape Master Plan in 1993. Ultimately he was inducted as a Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects in 1994.
