Debra L. Mitchell graduated from University of Illinois in 1975 and the University of Kansas in 1971. Mitchell was interested in improving society by providing her resources and services. She has received numerous awards for her success in landscape architecture. She was awarded the ASLA Community Service Award from Texas in 1989 and the Environmental Sensitivity Award in 1988. This led to her induction as a Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects in 1992.
