Donald F. Hilderbrandt graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1961 and The University of Michigan in 1963. His education allowed him to pursue a career in landscape architecture. He was involved in several major landscape projects that helped increase his popularity in the landscaping community. He was then recognized with several awards for his success. Such awards include the ASLA Maryland Historical Trust award in 1979 and the ASLA National Association of Home Builders award in 1976. This led to his induction as a Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects in 1981.
