In a Michigan Township during the month of May, at least eight riding lawn mowers disappeared from facilities.

Meanwhile, in Pennsylvania, State police at are investigating the theft of a 72-inch Jacobsen 628 Turfcat riding mower from the Great Bear Country Club in Middle Smithfield Township. The suspect(s) entered the building through an open window.

And finally, at Ka’ewai Elementary School in Kalihi, HI, about $500 worth of sod was stolen over a weekend in May.

More than 20 large pieces of sod were taken from the mound, leaving big, bald spots. The mound was used for the first time on the Friday before the theft as part of a May Day celebration.

When owners of Southern Turf International, which installed the sod, heard about the theft, they decided to donate sod to make the mound whole again.

While these incidents are unrelated, they illustrate how important it is to keep doors locked and landscapes properly lit.
