The Playgrounds Issue of Landscape Architect & Specifier News saw many firms submit their projects for feature consideration. This project was not chosen for a Feature in the issue, but we at LandscapeArchitect.com thought the project deserved to be showcased online . . .

The plan was to create an "adventureland" for a two year old who is very susceptible to sunburn in the hot Arkansas summers. Taking advantage of an existing, unusual, magnificent magnolia tree, a children's adventureland was created underneath to incorporate unusual limbs that stem from the one central tree, providing an intriguing, shaded setting for a playset made by KidKraft and sold by Sam's.
Edging was put in place and filled with mulch surrounding the playset, which also allowed room for stepping pads cut from natural tree stumps and a "table and stools" made from natural stumps.
Pea gravel underneath the playset provides an area for many hours of imaginative play with construction trucks and dump trucks.
