In a move that stands to create jobs, boost local economies, reduce diesel emissions and protect human health and the environment for the people of California, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded $25,403,971 million to replace, repower and retrofit engines in buses, heavy-duty trucks, locomotives, agricultural vehicles, construction vehicles, and cargo handling equipment in metropolitan Los Angeles, the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles, San Diego, the San Joaquin Valley, and the Bay Area. These clean diesel projects will create jobs while protecting California?EUR??,,????'?????<????????????EUR??,,??s air quality.
Recovery Act funds will go towards the following projects: Caltrans ?EUR??,,????'?????<????????Retrofit Construction Equipment;?EUR??,,????'?????<???????? CARB ?EUR??,,????'?????<????????South Coast New Switch Locomotives; ?EUR??,,????'?????<???????? Port of Los Angeles ?EUR??,,????'?????<????????Equipment and Vessels;?EUR??,,????'?????<???????? Port of Long Beach ?EUR??,,????'?????<????????Cargo Handling Equipment;?EUR??,,????'?????<???????? San Diego APCD ?EUR??,,????'?????<????????Lower-Emission School Buses;?EUR??,,????'?????<???????? The San Diego County Air Pollution Control District (APCD); San Joaquin Valley Unified APCD ?EUR??,,????'?????<????????School Bus Engine Retrofits;?EUR??,,????'?????<???????? San Joaquin Valley Unified APCD ?EUR??,,????'?????<????????Agricultural Equipment Engines;?EUR??,,????'?????<???????? Bay Area AQMD ?EUR??,,????'?????<????????Trucks at Port of Oakland.?EUR??,,????'?????<????????
In addition to helping create and retain jobs, the clean diesel projects would help to reduce premature deaths, asthma attacks and other respiratory ailments, lost work days, and many other health impacts every year.
In addition, under the Act?EUR??,,????'?????<????????????EUR??,,??s State Clean Diesel Grant program, a total of $88.2 million has been provided to States for clean diesel projects through a noncompetitive allocation process, and people can see how every dollar is being invested at Recovery.gov.
