According to a news brief by the National Pest Management Association the EPA has announced January 31 of 2014 as the deadline for manufacturers shipping pesticides (with regard to pollinators) to amend their labeling. This announcement comes just one month after the EPA announced the development of a new pesticide label that prohibits use of some neonicotinoid pesticide products where bees are present. The new labels will have a bee advisory box and icon with information on routes of exposure and spray drift precautions. This affects products containing the neonicotinoids imidacloprid, dinotefuran, clothianidin and thiamethoxam. Although this deadline applies to manufacturers, it does not prohibit the sale of old label product by distributors or the use of old label product by applicators. The EPA will work with pesticide manufacturers to change labels so that they will meet the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) safety standard. For more information about pesticide labeling regulations please visit epa.gov. Association news and events are listed at landscapearchitect.com.
