EPA, Dow Chemical Dioxin Cleanup




Dow Chemical company and the EPA will begin 60 days of negotiations for a cleanup plan for the Tittabawassee River system in Michigan.

Dioxins are toxic byproducts from making chlorine-based products.

Dow acted Wednesday, the same day the EPA offered to open 60 days of negotiations for a cleanup plan for the Tittabawassee River system. The EPA says the plan also may extend downstream to the Saginaw River and Lake Huron?EUR??,,????'?????<

Dow spokesman John Musser says the company hopes the talks lead to EPA acceptance of a Dow cleanup proposal. He says the plan will build on continuing joint cleanup efforts by Dow and Michigan environmental regulators.
