EPA Arsenic Ruling Extended

As reported previously, EPA issued a decision in August 2006 to cancel registration for all organic arsenicals (MSMA, DSMA, CAMA, and Cacodylic Acid). The agency also stated that it intends to ban all turf uses of PCNB. GCSAA will submit comments to EPA in support of the continued registration and use of both PCNB and MSMA on golf courses.

Over 75 comments have been posted to the PCNB docket from the golf industry. The MSMA docket includes 100+ golf industry comments. Those numbers are a good start, but hundreds more are needed to convince EPA that the golf industry needs these products. In regards to MSMA, GCSAA research and public policy staff participated in a stakeholder meeting with EPA?EUR??,,????'???s Biological and Economic Analysis Division earlier this week to discuss the critical benefits of this compound.

The Environmental Protection Agency has extended the public comment periods another 30 days for both PCNB and MSMA. The new PCNB public comment deadline is Dec. 4; the MSMA public comment period now closes on Dec. 13.For help submitting comments to the docket contact Chava McKeel, senior manager of government relations, 800-472-7878, ext. 3619 or cmmckeel@gcsaa.org
