SAN JOSE, Calif., - The Sierra Club Loma Prieta Chapter and Santa Clara Valley Audubon Society, represented by Earthjustice Legal Defense Fund, filed suit against the City of San Jose on November 28 to challenge the construction of a new Cisco research park.

If completed, the 688-acre park would consist of 6.6 million square feet of buildings, a new highway interchange on U.S. 101, extensive flood control projects, and parking for 20,000 new employees.

"San Jose and Cisco could have diffused this bomb with a commitment to regional planning, public transportation and on-site housing, but instead the project calls for 20,000 new parking spaces," said attorney Steve Volker, attorney for AMBAG.

The suit may result in a reassessment of the environmental impact of the proposed project.
