These latest infestations were confirmed over the past few weeks by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Monroe County and Broccolo Tree & Lawn Care in Henrietta.

The insects lay their eggs on green, white, black and blue ash trees. Larvae tunnel under the bark and disrupt the flow of nutrients, eventually killing the tree.

Early signs of ash borer infestation include canopy thinning, flecking bark resulting in woodpecker feeding, water sprouts near the base of a tree and small D-shaped exit holes on ash trees.

New York has a huge ash-tree population ?EUR??,,????'?????<

Experts say it may be possible to save a tree once ash borers have appeared on it, but advise treating it before the insects arrive to be safe.
