Vermont has become the latest state to issue a quarantine due to the spread of the emerald ash borer. Under the action, ash trees cannot be transported between states or counties. The pest has mostly affected the East Coast and officials are concerned about it spreading to the West Coast.On the East Coast, Maine has been unaffected by the pest but it has been found as far away as Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the first infestation in that state. Recently, the emerald ash borer was identified in Wisconsin. The quarantine is a precautionary effort to prevent the spread of it to new states. The following states have had confirmed infestations as of May 9, 2018: • Alabama• Arkansas
