MICHIGAN ?EUR" A new wood-boring beetle has been found in Michigan that promises to become yet another significant pest of landscape trees and native woodlands. The emerald ash borer has been identified as the cause of ash decline in Michigan. Discarded dunnage from cargo ships is suggested as a possible source of the infestation. The exotic pest is native to China, Korea, Japan and other Asian countries. The Michigan Department of Agriculture (MDA) has found the beetle in five counties in Michigan. The counties are being regulated by the MDA to prevent spread through movement of nursery stock, wood debris, or logs.
