The Ecological Landscaping Association is a nonprofit, member-based organization made up of professionals, businesses and pro-active community members. Founded in 1992 they advocate for environmentally responsible stewardship of land and natural resources in landscaping and horticultural practices.

Yardscaping: Beautiful and Ecological Garden Inspiration
YardScaping is an educational project that showcases the possibilities for attractive, low-input, and low-impact gardening. The landscape is a series of linked demonstration gardens from a small, pocket urban garden, to a free-flowing wild garden. The design incorporates native and non-invasive plants, lawn grasses, and wildflowers especially suited to southern and coastal Maine.

Bioremediation at Blackstone River Canal
The recently completed bioremediation project includes a radical new design using fungal mycellium beds and diverse aquatic eco-system to transform the ecology of the canal to a healthier state. Join tour guide, John Todd for a walk along restored sections of the Blackstone River Canal to learn about this innovative bioremediation project and the promise that this technology has for future ecological restoration.

Penobscot River Restoration Great Works & Veazie Dam Removals
The largest river in Maine, the Penobscot River Restoration Project provides numerous benefits while maintaining hydropower generation. Through a collaborative effort, the project provides access to fish habitat, restores ecological functions to benefit native plant and animals, and leads to a cleaner, healthier, more resilient river. Join tour guides Steve Shepard and Sarah Watts for a unique opportunity to see this historic restoration project in process.

Lake George Restoration Constructed Wetlands/Porous Paving
The biggest threat to Lake George is stormwater runoff that enters the Lake carrying sediment pollutants, chemicals, and nutrients every time it rains. To tackle these problems a coalition was formed to create a stormwater project to protect Lake George for many years to come. Join project manager Randy Rath to learn more about these effective strategies.
