EDSA Wins Nine ASLA Awards

International planning, landscape architecture, and urban design firm, EDSA, has been honored by the Florida Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (FLASLA) with nine awards. The awards program encourages professional excellence by recognizing projects which inspire the industry through imagination, are incomparable, distinctive and surpass expectations. 

Al Ain Wildlife Park & Resort

From international resort destinations to local urban transit work, all of the acknowledged projects were credited for demonstrating a thorough and inspired use of landscape architectural services. Included among the nine awards is the coveted Frederic B. Stresau award which is bestowed as the highest honor and the Edward D. Stone, Jr. Landmark Award established this year to honor the legacy of EDSA's late founder. According to Douglas C. Smith, Managing Principal at EDSA, "The FLASLA Awards Program is highly regarded in the industry. EDSA is proud that our commitment to the profession can speak for itself through the recognition of these projects and their balance of land, culture, art, function and sustainability."

• Frederic B. Stresau Award and Award of Excellence - Al Ain Wildlife Park & Resort a master plan based on conservation and the environment for a world-class destination in the United Arab Emirates with a unique blend of education, recreation and residential offerings. The project is designed to encourage life-long respect for the complex desert ecosystem and the symbiotic relationships between people, culture and the environment. 
• Edward D. Stone, Jr. Landmark Award - PepsiCo World Headquarters in Purchase, New York, a resounding example of how the blending of landscapes, sculptures, gardens and fountains not only transformed a corporate campus environment but also enhanced the quality of employees' attitudes, lifestyles and overall performance. Although designed over 30 years ago, the campus and the company still embody this philosophy today.
• Award of Merit - Valletta Waterfront in which EDSA helped preserve and revitalize a 500-year-old waterfront increasing the environment's historical value and allowing Malta to capture a larger share of the tourism market.
• Award of Excellence - Plan de Ordenamiento Territorial Valle de Tizayuca, a l and management plan in Mexico which combines social, geographic, transportation and geological elements to promote sustainable growth.
• Award of Honor - Port Ghalib Maritime Park Complex, inspired by local Egyptian culture and heritage, this cutting edge entertainment and educational component is incorporated within a resort atmosphere in a natural setting along the Red Sea.  
• Award of Merit - Regional Transit Alternatives Study for South Florida East Coast Corridor, design guidelines for station suitability and transit oriented development along an 85-mile urban corridor the metropolitan region .
• Award of Excellence - Bahia Beach Resort & Golf Club - Golf Villas/Las Verandas , a resort community in Puerto Rico with a master plan that celebrates the site's natural attributes with an immaculate blending of development and environment.

FLASLA recognized only 24 of the 74 projects submitted. With a total of nine awards, EDSA accounted for 37% of the winning entries. In addition, this the second consecutive year EDSA has won the Frederic B. Stresau award. The Firm's awards portfolio now consists of over 240 projects.
