Former Tennessee Titan Eddie George will show off the work of his landscape architecture firm October 29th, when plans are unveiled for a major streetscape overhaul in the historic Jefferson Street district.

Mayor Karl Dean and other local and state officials are rolling out the Gateway to Heritage project plans in a ceremony at 1:30 p.m., on Jefferson Street at the I-40 Underpass (between 21st and 28th avenues).
The effort is intended to boost the potential for new economic development in North Nashville by reducing the impact Interstate 40 has on the neighborhood.

Karl Dean is the sixth mayor of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County.

EDGE was selected as the design consultant last month through a competitive procurement process, according to the Mayor's office.

Phase I of Gateway to Heritage is backed by a federally-funded grant from the Tennessee Department of Transportation, with matching funds from Metro. The grant application was submitted in partnership with the Jefferson Street United Merchants Partnership.

Aside from Mayor Dean and George, Sen. Thelma Harper, Councilman Jerry Maynard as well as other state and Metro officials are expected at tomorrow's event.
