EDAW Wins Miami Design Preservation League Award

The urban design, landscape and streetscape plan presented to the City of Miami Beach for the restoration of the Art Deco District by EDAW won the $25 million commission. Construction will begin in 2005. MDLP saw all the design presentations made by the competing landscape firms and felt that EDAW?EUR??,,????'???s were, ?EUR??,,????'??entirely sympathetic and in sync with the historic architecture and urban character of the Art Deco District,?EUR??,,????'?? stated Beth Dunlop, chairman of the MDLP support awards. In addition to installing new sidewalks, planting trees along the streets, putting in speed bumps to slow down cars, creating paths to connect different neighborhoods and make them pedestrian friendly, EDAW is also upgrading the water system. New pipes are being installed to deliver water for fire-flow safety, treat storm water before it discharges into the bay, and upgrade the entire drainage system to lessen flooding.
