Rock Hill, South Carolina

A design profession in Rock Hill, South Carolina, the designs that evolve from my work are a culmination of a process. As an "architect" for a project, the team keeps in mind the twelve personifications that influence life: physics, music, law, medicine, astronomy, writing, drafting, geometry, optics, arithmetic, history, and philosophy. Life has a rhythm; this rhythm is translated by designing with nature. Every facet in our life is touched by a natural environment that changes with time; so in turn, the design of project follows a rhythm that has harmony, form, function and will change in time. Services include: land planning, site development for commercial clients, single-family residential design, and residential landscape architecture. In the environmental planning services, the team provides wetlands determinations, wetlands delineations, assistance in wetlands permitting, expert witness in tree loss cases, tree appraisals, and tree protection plans.

Project Name and Location: The Shed; Fort Mill, SC
"The Shed" is the next phase in a master plan designed for the residence over twenty years ago. The clients wanted to add an expansion to their outdoor living space including a kitchen, dining, and entertainment area, resulting in a holistic outdoor living environment that far exceeded the client's original concept. While situated a mere thirty feet from the main residence, "The Shed" blends seamlessly into the wooded surroundings and is in essence a mountain retreat nestled in the cozy confines of the backyard. The installation of a reflective barrier successfully allows the structure to remain cool in the summer. Custom-designed rain chains are tied down to a catch basin. The pipes connect underground and drain in the natural area on the down slope. The existing deck and pergola transition into the newly designed "Shed" by way of the bridge. Steel cables suggest transparency but, as time goes on, these cables will be intertwined with cross-vines and Carolina Jasmine (Gelsemium sempervirens). The central chandelier was designed as a focal element over the dining room table. There are concentric circles in the chandelier starting at one foot diameter, then three feet, and then six feet. The compass, which is inlaid on the floor below, has a diameter of twelve feet and creates a conical shape with the chandelier. The whole outside environment is highlighted at night with low-voltage LED lighting. The kitchen, dining space, fireplace, and the exterior are lighted in seven zones controlled by a remote device iPad. As a result, the structure at night becomes a sculpture to look at and enjoy.

As seen in LASN magazine, October 2025.
