CALGARY, Alberta, Canada ?EUR??,,????'??? The International Federation of Landscape Architect?EUR??,,????'???s 40th World Congress began May 25 in Calgary with fewer delegates and exhibitors than preferred but with promise nonetheless. ?EUR??,,????'??We received many cancellations from the international community as a result of the SARS scare (globally),?EUR??,,????'?? said Andre Schwabenbauer, president of the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects. Schwabenbauer said despite the cancellations, 350 international delegates are in attendance. The exhibition hall at Calgary?EUR??,,????'???s Telus Convention Center featured 46 exhibitors, including the Canadian Nursery Landscape Association, Landscape Structures, Rain Bird International and the Toro Company. IFLA President Martha Cecilia Fajardo described the world congress as an exciting opportunity to exchange knowledge, skills, experience and solutions. The dominant themes of discussion focused on the global landscape within the framework of theory, practice and technology. The IFLA also sponsored an international landscape architecture student design competition, featuring 170 submissions. Of these submissions, 50 posters of the students?EUR??,,????'??? work were displayed throughout the exhibit hall. The CSLA used this international forum to announce and honor its 2003 class of fellows. New fellows include: Andre Schwabenbauer, Alan Duncan, John Hillier, Richard Gaudreau, Donna Hinde, Peter Kreuk, Domenic Lunardo, Patrick Mooney, Marie-Claude Robert, David Reid, and Richard Strong.
