DoT Considers TEA-21 Regulations For Accountability of Spending WASHINGTON, DC The U.S. Department of Transportation is now in the process of issuing regulations related to Title 49, Section 134 (h). A coalition of environmental, economic justice, local government and civil rights organizations is pressing for regulations that require transportation planning organizations to disclose exactly how and where transportation money is spent. The coalition is also urging DoT to make this information more useful and understandable for citizens by requiring the data to be geo-coded so that transportation investment patterns can be viewed using maps. APA is a part of this broad coalition and is working to ensure that the final regulations require Metropolitan Planning Organizations to collect and make available to the public geographically coded data on expenditures of federal transportation dollars. This data should be nationally standardized, comparable among regions, electronic, geographically specific, and readily accessible to help planners and communities make better decisions about transportation investments.
