Doral, Florida Turns Down the Volume

The next time you take an early Saturday morning stroll in Doral, Florida you may notice a strange sound in the distance. If you listen closely, you can make it out. Do you hear it? That pleasant chatter is the sound of birds chirping; something you wouldn’t be able to hear over the hum of lawnmower engines until now.

As part of a ‘’Keep Doral Beautiful’’ initiative, Doral City Council approved three ordinances aimed at turning the volume down on invasive noise on weekends and holidays, keeping landscaping trimmed, and mandating that perimeter walls be pristine and uniform.

‘’They’re all three critical components of our efforts to make Doral a cleaner, more beautiful place to live,’’ said Mayor Juan Carlos Bermudez.

Walls surrounding developments in Doral must now be painted in a single color, subject to the city manager’s approval, and any signs of cracks, mildew or other wear-and-tear will not be tolerated.

Albert Childress, the city’s chief of code compliance, distributed news of the ordinance to the city’s homeowners associations. It explained in detail the more stringent guidelines on perimeter walls and fences.

Property owners will also have to get rid of any dead trees, garbage, or unsanitary conditions visible on their lawns in order to comply with the landscaping regulations.

New noise regulations adopted by the council include limiting the hours that commercial power tools and landscaping equipment can be used. On weekdays the use of noise-making tools such as chain saws or lawn mowers cannot take place between the hours of 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 a.m., and on Saturday no earlier than 9 a.m.
