Swings for Dreams is a grassroots nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children in third-world and developing countries through the design and construction of safe, sustainable, and culturally sensitive play spaces. The organization was launched in late 2013, just two weeks after co-founders Michael Aguas and Nicholas Tuttle arrived back in the United States from the Ratang Bana Orphanage in Alexandra Township, South Africa. While Aquas and Tuttle, along with other California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo landscape architecture students, were visiting Africa they used their training to change the world, and built safe outdoor play spaces for the children. When they returned home their experiences inspired them to found Swings for Dreams for their landscape architecture senior project. It is now their mission to help change the lives of children that live in some of the most destitute regions of the world. This August, Swings for Dreams will be traveling to Nieu Bethesda, South Africa to build a playground at Lettie de Klerk primary school and is in the midst of fundraising for this venture. ALL proceeds"?u100 percent of earnings received via the events, donations, and Indiegogo campaign will go toward funding the project in South Africa this summer. Costs include construction materials and heavy equipment needed to build climbing play structures, shaded lunch areas, a sports field, gardens and more.
