Dixie Chopper was one of the first companies to produce zero-turn mowers.

Art Evans, the founder and president of Dixie Chopper, was recently awarded Indiana’s 2005 Entrepreneur of the Year award, sponsored by Ernst & Young LLP of Indianapolis. Evans set out 25 years ago, “to build a product that wouldn’t break when you used it,” he said in his acceptance speech. He founded the company in 1980 and for the last three years, the company has reported better than 30 percent growth in total revenues. He is now in the running for the national 2005 Entrepreneur of the Year award, which will be given out by Ernst & Young at a ceremony in November.
