Directorate of Landscape Architecture Proposed for Hong Kong
The Hong Kong Development Bureau proposes creating the post of directorate of landscape architecture. There are now 45 landscape-architect grade officers in the Hong Kong government working in four departments. The bureau will hire for the directorate post by internal promotion as the first option; failing that, it will seek open recruitment.

The role of landscape architects in Hong Kong is definitely on the upswing. There are greening master plans for Sheung Wan, Wan Chai, Causeway Bay, Mong Kok and Yau Ma Tei.

In the next three years, 10 ongoing park and open-space projects will be completed in Hong Kong, and another 10 are in the plans. To prepare for the Olympic and Paralympic Equestrian Event in August 2008 and the 2009 East Asian Game, the city is busy adding green space and upgrading streetscapes at popular tourist areas.
