It is not quite the end of January, and here I am writing about the end of the winter trade show season, although as of now we?EUR??,,????'???ve only attended the Pro Green show in Denver. Still, from all accounts, attendance was up and business looks good . . .
February will be/is the busy month for LCN, as we have three trade shows to attend all during the four days of the 17th ?EUR??,,????'??? 20th! You?EUR??,,????'???d think they would have looked up the dates at LandscapeOnline?EUR??,,????'???s Calendar of Events and given the industry a bit of a break . . .
Oh well, many of you will first see this edition and may see one of LCN?EUR??,,????'???s over-extended staff at either the IECA (Erosion Control) show in Philadelphia, the World of Concrete in Orlando, or the CLCA show in Long Beach, Calif.
Actually, LCN will be attending 16 trade shows this year, starting at the Pro Green show and ending in Florida at IAAPA (Amusement Parks). In between and besides the shows listed above, you?EUR??,,????'???ll see us at LightFair, the Land Development Expo, the Green Roof Conference, the Texas Nursery and Landscape Show, the Western Garden and Nursery Show, EXPO 2004, the Turfgrass Show, the Park & Rec Show, the Landscape Architect Show, the Green Industry Expo and the Irrigation Show.
Trade shows are one of the best vehicles (besides trade magazines, of course . . .) for getting to know the latest and the greatest in the industry. All the new products, tools and techniques are usually presented in either the vendor booths or in the seminars. If you are at a trade show reading this, then good for you! You probably have just gained a bit of an advantage over the competition . . .
And did I tell you about the research team . . . Ok, so maybe I did mention them in the last issue . . . Anyways . . . One of the many improvements made by LCN over the past year or two has been establishing a department dedicated to researching the ever-expanding world of landscape. From personal statistics (nearly 65% of you who own your own business have been in business for more than eight years) to all matter of things (did you know that North Dakota has the highest number of pesticide applicators per capita in the United States . . .), the research team is compiling interesting and pertinent tidbits that you?EUR??,,????'???ll find throughout the magazine . . . in every corner we can find . . .
But that?EUR??,,????'???s not all . . . In addition to increasing the monthly word count of LCN (and LCN?EUR??,,????'???s siblings, Landscape Architect and Landscape Superintendent), the research team just can?EUR??,,????'???t get enough. Headed by Jim Lipot, who just received his MBA, and complemented by the enthusiasm of Jen Beauvais and the steady hand of Colleen Cannova, the RSIS team is ready to be tested by you . . .
So . . . If you need a statistic or two relating to the industry, give?EUR??,,????'??em a call at 714-979-5276. They?EUR??,,????'???re hoping they don?EUR??,,????'???t know the answer so they can begin another new adventure . . . We don?EUR??,,????'???t charge for this service, we just want LCN to be the leading center of information throughout the industry and are here to serve . . .
Have a great month and God Bless . . .
