Dewberry to Design New Jersey Roadway Improvements

The final design for roadway improvements on Route 17 at Passaic Street in Bergen County, NJ, was recently awarded to Dewberry (a national professional services firm) through the Bergen County Department of Planning and Economic Development.

Route 17 is a principle arterial highway that provides a vital north-south link to commercial and residential areas of Bergen County. Passaic Street is a heavily used route by motorists traveling to the Garden State Plaza Mall.

The project aims to improve traffic operations and safety on Route 17 and Passaic Street as well as the local roadway system. The main goal is to bring the highway up to current geometric standards while helping to alleviate traffic congestion.

The start date for the project is scheduled for 2008 with an estimated two-year duration. Construction costs have been estimated at approximately $23 million.

The Dewberry team includes: Neglia Engineering Associates, who will perform field surveys and existing ROW tasks; GEOD Corporation will provide aerial photography, surveys and topographic mapping services; AmerCom Corporation will perform tasks for the proposed ROW; and Paul Carpenter Associates will provide data for the noise wall.
