Irrigation Conversions Promoted in Videos

Two new videos created by Netafim USA and The Gardener Guy, Paul James, can be used as a sales tool by irrigation consultants, designers and installers to get homeowners to convert to a drip system.

In spite of predictions of a wet winter courtesy of El Nino, in parched areas of the country the specter of drought will not disappear, nor will watering restrictions and renewed calls for more intelligent watering practices. Netafim USA has teamed up with The Gardener Guy, Paul James, and created videos that describe the many benefits of drip irrigation when it comes to maintaining a beautiful landscape with limited water availability.

Featuring the former host of HGTV's Gardening by the Yard, and master gardener, the videos explain to homeowners how a significant reduction in outdoor water use without the need for a radical landscape transformation is achievable by converting areas that are watered by sprinklers into more efficient drip irrigation zones.

"The more I travel the country and talk to people about their lawn and gardens, the more I see that many common problems such as water waste, disease and pests are the result of using sprinklers in areas better suited for drip," says James. "Previously used primarily in non-turf areas, drip irrigation is now being used as an extremely efficient way to water grassy areas by using drip tubing that is specially designed to be used below the lawn's surface. Subsurface drip irrigation reduces water use by up to 70 percent when compared to sprinklers, making it very difficult to justify the continued use of antiquated water-wasting sprinklers."

Produced in the same style that Gardening By The Yard fans will remember, blending humor with important information, the short videos are designed to just be primers on converting planter beds and lawns to drip irrigation.

They also answer some of the most common questions homeowners have about above and below-ground drip irrigation and dispel many of the common misconceptions about installation, maintenance and the efficiency of drip systems.

"The videos are not designed to be a step-by-step installation guide, but are specifically for the purpose of providing an overview of how drip irrigation can significantly reduce water use in every part of the landscape," said Mauricio Troche, director of landscape sales and marketing, Netafim USA.

Irrigation consultants, designers and installers can use these videos to help educate potential customers and sell them on a conversion job.
