Delaware Worker's Comp Rise 14 Percent

Delaware business owners must pay more to insure employees for on-the-job injuries. Delaware premiums for regular voluntary market customers will go up 14.6 percent, and rates for clients in the residual market will increase by 19 percent. This is not good news for Delaware landscape contractor and maintenance companies.

"I recognize that any rate increase in the workers' compensation system is going to be tough on businesses during this economic climate. The amended rates I approved were the best balance between the several considerations that bear on the workers' compensation filing," stated Delaware Insurance Commissioner Karen Weldin Stewart.

Deputy Insurance Commissioner Gene Reed added, "There's some 20 or so varied, large claims out there that are significant in terms of medical cost."

Delaware landscape contractors can learn more about workers' compensation costs by contacting the Office of Workplace Safety at the Delaware Department of Insurance at 302-674-7378.
