Deere Sponsors National Garden

The National Garden will be a showcase for unusual, useful, and ornamental plants that grow well in the mid-Atlantic region. It will also provide “living laboratories” for environmental, horticultural, and botanical education.

John Deere has announced that it will be a founding sponsor of The National Garden at the U.S. Botanic Garden.

The National Garden, a symbol of America’s appreciation of and respect for gardening and the environment, is under construction on a three-acre site on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.

“John Deere helps people imagine what can be by providing the knowledge, equipment and support that empowers them to connect to the land,” said Vivien Joklik, a vice president of Deere’s Worldwide Commercial & Consumer Equipment Division. “We are proud to associate John Deere with this project.”

The National Garden is being constructed in four phases, as endowment allows. Phases One and Two, which include the Rose Garden, the Regional Garden with an amphitheatre, the Butterfly Garden, Pergolas and the Hornbeam Terrace, are under construction and will be completed by the end of 2005. The First Ladies’ Water Garden and an environmental learning center will comprise Phases Three and Four respectively, and are slated for future construction.
