Deadline Nears for Matching Funds Grant Applications

The deadline for matching fund grants for the Challenge/Build/Grow initiative from the National Housing Endowment, the philanthropic arm of NAHB, is April 17. The endowment awards grants to state and local home builders associations in support of their innovative programs addressing education, land use and labor shortages and worker training.

Since the program began in 2001, matching fund awards around the country have totaled more than $95,000. As the program has evolved, greater emphasis has been placed on innovation and collaborative efforts with schools and community organizations.

Here are some examples of programs that have received funding previously:

  • The Southern Arizona Home Builders Association (SAHBA) received a grant of $5,000 to support its Institute of Construction, which teaches technical skills in eight trades.
  • The Home Builders Association of Greater Chicago and its Greater Chicagoland Housing Foundation received $5,000 for its Promoting Quality Growth program, which was created to educate the public, policy-makers and businesses about the value of sensible growth and to promote a participatory process for determining sensible goals for growth in Chicago-area communities.
  • The Home Builders and Remodelers Association of Maine received $2,500 to support its Residential Ventilation for Healthy Indoor Air Quality Program, a training series for association members on effective ventilation strategies in new and existing homes.
