Dr. John Thomson, biochemist and inventor of Superthrive celebrated his 100th birthday November 23, 2011. In 1939, Thompson developed the secret formula that would become Superthrive. Seventy years later, his company, Vitamin Institute, still markets and sells it. Made from over 50 vitamins and hormones, Superthrive is a non-toxic, liquid concentrate that acts as a plant activator and reviver. It is used throughout the world by nurseries, horticulturists, and several departments of government to keep trees and plants strong and healthy. During World War II the solution was used to help transplant mature trees for warfare plant camouflage; plant and sustain low-dust turf landing fields; improve soil conditions where salt interfered with plant success; develop drug- and oil-bearing plants domestically; and increase production of necessary guayule rubber.
