Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum Announces 15th Annual National Design Award Recipients
Andrea Cochran, FASLA, founded Andrea Cochran Landscape Architecture,
San Francisco, in 1998. The firm's award-winning work ranges from
single-family homes to hotels, wineries, affordable housing, schools, institutions and public parks.

The Smithsonian's Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum has announced the winners of the 2014 National Design Awards, which recognize excellence and innovation across a variety of disciplines.
This year's recipients are:
Landscape Architecture: Andrea Cochran Landscape Architecture - San Francisco-based firm where sustainability is central to the practice, and each project instills a sense of intimacy and strong attention to detail.
Lifetime Achievement: Ivan Chermayeff and Tom Geismar - Founding partners of Chermayeff & Geismar & Haviv, New York–based brand design firm (logos and trademarks).
Design Mind: Witold Rybczynski - Professor of architecture, University of Pennsylvania; prolific writer on architecture, urbanism and design.
Corporate & Institutional Achievement: Etsy - Online marketplace for one million worldwide retailers; $1.35 billion in merchandise sold in 2013.
Architecture Design: Brooks + Scarpa - L.A.–based firm known for innovative, sustainable and socially progressive design and building materials applications.
Communication Design: Office - San Francisco–based studio; clients include Google, Disney, Coca-Cola, Target and IBM.
Fashion Design: Narciso Rodriguez - NYC-based, known for women's ready-to-wear collections that are simple, sensible and sophisticated.
Interaction Design: Aaron Koblin - San Francisco designer known for exploring the relationship between humans and their data collecting.
Interior Design: Roman and Williams Buildings and Interiors - New York–based firm now specializing in hotels and residential building interiors.
Product Design: LUNAR - Global product design and engineering firm.
This marks the 15th year for the museum's national design awards, which were launched in 2000 as a project of the White House Millennium Council. The award ceremony and gala dinner is Oct. 9, at Pier Sixty in New York City. It is held later in the year to coincide with National Design Week, Oct. 4–12. The awards are accompanied each year by a variety of public education programs, including special events, panel discussions and workshops.
