Pool owner Traska is a former bear hunter who switched to shooting bears with cameras. He became so attached to the beasts that he eventually raised Vince, an orphan, and then adopted two more bear cubs.

Built partly using Aquascape Designs, Inc. hardware, the pool at first used the same type of submerged pump and filter employed in many backyard ponds. But that became a problem.
