Construction Spending Up Year Over Year, Flat Month Over Month





Construction spending in December 2014 was barely up (0.4 percent) from the revised November 2014 estimate but up 2.2 percent from December 2013. The value of construction in 2014 was 5.6 percent above 2013's amount.

The U.S. Census Bureau of the Department of Commerce's most recent numbers showed that construction spending during December 2014 was estimated at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $982.1 billion, just a tick above above the revised November estimate, but 2.2 percent above the December 2013 estimate.

The value of construction put in place in 2014 was $961.4 billion, 5.6 percent above the $910.8 billion spent in 2013.

Spending on private construction was at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $698.6 billion, 0.1 percent above the revised November estimate. Of that total, residential construction accounted for almost exactly half.

The value of private construction in 2014 was 7.2 percent above 2013's numbers.

Public construction spending in December was up 1.1% over November. The value of public construction in 2014 bettered 2013 by 1.8 percent.
