Construction Firms Surveyed About
Technology Usage

The 2015 Construction Technology Survey is in the process of being compiled at this moment, and the CEO of the company conducting the survey will be talking about the results at the Associated General Contractors of America's IT Forum in Chicago on July 31. JBKnowledge will also be releasing a final report in October.

How construction companies use information technology devices and software is the focus of a nationwide survey being conducted by a Texas-based consulting firm.

JBKnowledge specializes in cloud, mobile and wearable technology solutions for the construction industry, and began asking builders to answer questions for its 2015 Construction Technology (CT) Survey June 23.

The deadline to submit responses was July 6.

JBKnowledge completed its first CT Survey in 2012, in part, because the company felt there was "a real need to learn more about technology adoption and usage within the construction industry," the company said in a news release.

"The 2012 survey was more of a research process to understand technology trends, strategies and budgets throughout the construction industry," JBKnowledge noted.

Its first 20-question, web-based survey drew more than 450 responses. Over 700 builders took part in the second annual survey in 2013, and more than 1,000 building representatives participated in 2014.

This year, JBKnowledge expects some 2,000 responses, said Liz Welsh, the company's marketing director and lead editor of the survey.

Each survey aims to address the information technology strategies of small, medium and large construction companies, Welsh said, including how they use IT devices and software technologies to support their construction projects, among other related issues.

"This year's survey investigates how builders are using cloud, mobile, drone and wearable technology; allocating resources for adopting new technology; and integrating processes through technology solutions," JBKnowledge said.

Since its inception, the survey has become a valuable resource for construction businesses, the company said.

All survey participants will receive a complimentary copy of the final survey results of the 2015 Construction Technology Report when it is published in October.

James Benham, chief executive officer of JBKnowledge, will also present the results at the Associated General Contractors of America's IT Forum in Chicago on July 31.

"Every year, this survey gives builders critical insight into how they can better employ technology on construction projects," Benham said in the news release.

"It's essential reading for every professional in the construction industry that wants to stay current on the technology available across construction processes," Benham added. "We try to make it applicable and valuable to everyone in a construction company, from the IT geeks like us to the contractors still using fax machines."

JBKnowledge is headquartered in Bryan/College Station, TX, and serves construction clients on an international basis.
