According to the Providence Journal, Johnston councilman Joseph Wells said that he plans to introduce an ordinance that would restrict the operation of heavy equipment in areas within 1,000 feet of residences. This comes after a fire in July at a recycling plant, caused a stir among neighbors. The machinery could run between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday No equipment will be allowed to run on Sunday. The measure restricts the operation of bulldozers and payloaders, auto shredders, trucks with a gross weight of over 20,000 pounds and any other equipment designed for the purpose of excavation or the movement of heavy materials. The first offense is a fine of $100, $250 for the second and $1,000 after that.
